Soft caskets are made with the same technique that I use to construct my urns, cording wrapped in strips of fabric and sewn together. However, soft caskets are made with cotton rope rather than cording and are sewn on a large industrial machine.
The closure is a series of macreme knots made of NC cotton twine and secured with organic cotton braid.
For viewing, the top can be folded back as much as desired.
Soft Caskets made for children and young adults
Each casket is meant to be a piece of fiber art. We’ll spend plenty of time on design, color, fabric choices, and embellishment so that you get something unique and beautiful that expresses your style and how you live.
These caskets require weeks of work, so they must be ordered well in advance of being needed. Prices range from $2000 to $6000 depending on the materials, amount of handwork and embellishment.
Toddler caskets may be made in all white, bright solid colors or patterned fabrics. Inside is an organic cotton futon and small pillow, the child may be placed on his/her back or side. The lid fits snugly over the bottom of the casket eliminating the need for fasteners. Prices range from $650 to $1200 depending on materials, size, and embellishment.
Infant caskets hold the child like a cradle. The body lies curled on its side on an organic cotton cushion, then the top is placed over it and the ribbons tied in place. The casket may be carried by the ribbons or held in your arms. Price range from $550 to $950 depending on materials and embellishment.
